Use Cases are widely used to identify and capture how humans and external systems interact with a System of Interest. However, how Use Cases are developed and leveraged to develop complex systems varies greatly within industry. This variance is especially true for Use Cases developed using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), for which there are many methodologies, each providing a unique approach for developing Use Cases. This presentation provides an in-depth review of Use Case methods and styles and provides practical best practices for developing Use Cases on any project.
Trent Rich is a Lead Systems Engineer at Summit Technology Research Corporation (TRC). Summit TRC is a small business headquartered in Huntsville, Al that focuses on providing unmatched Systems Engineering expertise. While Trent enjoys all facets of Systems Engineering, his expertise is in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and he is an OMG Certified Systems Modeling Professional – SysML Model Builder Advanced (OCSMP Level 4). He has led multiple systems modeling efforts for the U.S. Army and is currently leading an effort to develop a systems interoperability model for U.S. Army Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS). Trent graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering and a Master of Science in Systems Engineering. For his master’s degree, he performed research into the application of MBSE for CubeSat development. Trent currently resides in Huntsville with his wife, Heidi, and enjoys reading, playing tennis in a United States Tennis Association (USTA) league, and playing soccer in the Huntsville Adult Soccer League (HASL).
