Abstract:  We’re back! Join us for the first webinar in the PLE Working Group’s “Road to IW2026” series, kicking off a renewed journey toward innovation and collaboration.  This session will provide an overview of SysML v2, with a special focus on variant notation and how it supports Product Line Engineering (PLE). We’ll explore the synergy between PLE and SysML v2, including insights from the latest work of the OMG SysML v2 User Group.  Whether you're deep into systems modeling or just beginning to explore the power of PLE, this webinar will offer valuable perspectives and updates.

Sandy Friedenthal is a prominent figure in the field of model-based systems engineering (MBSE). He served as a Technical Fellow at Lockheed Martin, where he led advanced systems engineering practices including model-based systems development (MBSD). He has been highly active in standards development: he was instrumental in the development of the SysML (Systems Modeling Language) standard through the Object Management Group (OMG) and is co-leading the next-generation SysML v2 effort.  Friedenthal is a co-author of major reference books such as A Practical Guide to SysML and Architecting Spacecraft with SysML.  His experience spans the full system lifecycle—from conceptual design through development and production—particularly in aerospace and defense domains.  In his current role as an independent consultant, he supports organizations in adopting MBSE and preparing for the transition to SysML v2.

Dr. Charles Krueger: He is founder and CEO of BigLever Software, which for over 20 years has helped organizations adopt and benefit from Feature-based Product Line Engineering (PLE). With more than 30 years of experience in systems and software engineering practice, he is an acknowledged thought leader in the PLE arena. Dr Krueger brings innovative PLE concepts, state-of-the-art methodologies, and success stories to the forefront of the systems engineering community. He is the lead editor for the ISO/IEC 26580 & 26581 standards on Feature-based PLE and past co-chair for the INCOSE PLE International Working Group and is a current member of the Forbes Business Council. Krueger received his PhD in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University, where he helped to pioneer the field of systems and software product lines.
