INCOSE-LA Speaker Meeting “Look! The Gorillas are Doing Ballet- an Agile Transformation Story (Navy)”  with Cindy VanEpps

Abstract:  Development of mission-critical military systems is like walking through a complex jungle of risk, compliance, oversight and responsibility.

Similar to watching an episode of “Running Wild with Bear Grylls” -  the intrigue, suspense and eventual relief of survival are some of the emotional highs and lows you’ll experience going through an organization-wide transformation.  While it will never make for prime time TV watching, the need for this systems and process evolution and its eventual manifestation are no less remarkable.

In this session, we'll act as your personal jungle guide as we walk you through a transformational journey and spare you neither the gory details nor the poignant insights.  Who are the players and personalities involved?  What are the motivations and actions - both blatantly observable and those hidden in the shadows? What are the obvious as well as the creative solutions to help the organization cross the divide?

This story will show you how a development organization transformed from -  "We could never do it the agile way"- to "We can never do it any other way!"

Biography:  Cindy’s first job out of college was crafting Space Shuttle Flight Design Software at Johnson Space Center.  Over the subsequent years she has been a software developer, technical lead, development manager, consultant, and solution developer.

She has worked with numerous system engineering companies and with each she has proven success at helping transform traditional waterfall and highly regulated environments to agile and scaled agile practices.

In her thought leadership, teaching and consulting she has proven a wealth of knowledge and creativity but more importantly she brings pragmatism to the application of Agile practices.  She “practices what she preaches” on the importance of focus on principles and evolving the specific practices based on both relentless improvement and application of the principles in the way that provides most economic benefit.

As a SAFe ™ Program Consultant Trainer (SPCT) her pragmatic approach and entertaining style make her a fan favorite.
