Midwest Gateway Chapter Sponsored Certification Preparation Workshop 2021

The first session of Midwest Gateway Chapter (MGC) sponsored 2021 Certification Preparation Workshop starts Thursday, 19 Aug 2021, at 4:30PM Central Time. See details below. If planning to attend workshop, please send email to:

What: Certification Preparation Workshop is sixteen (16) one-hour virtual reviews of the SE Handbook Version 4 and tutorial material each week.

Why: INCOSE MGC is organizing a review workshop in preparation for a systems engineering knowledge exam. The knowledge exam is one of the requirements to become a Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP):

The written knowledge exam will be offered at a yet to be determined price (around $30 more or less). It is tentatively to be held on 17 December 2021 (stay tuned for more details on the written knowledge exam itself).

Who: The preparation workshop is open to anyone (INCOSE-MGC members and non-members). The low fee knowledge exam is available to anyone although priority given to members if space is limited. INCOSE Certification requires an active INCOSE membership and submission of application information and fee.

When: Certification Workshop planned every Thursday from 19 August to 9 December 2021 at 4:30pm Central Time.  Sessions last 1 hour.

How:  Some CSEPs/ASEPs are attending to provide discussion and advice on becoming certified.

Location. Washington University in St. Louis Technology & Leadership Center, Lopata Hall, 5th floor, St. Louis


  • 5:00pm - space opens

Parking. There are two options for parking. Parking is free if you arrive after 5pm, only $2 if you arrive after 4pm.

  1. East End Parking Garage. Parking is available in the East End Garage and has two entrance points off of Forest Park Parkway and off of Forsyth. As you enter the garage, you will need to pull a ticket to gain entry and park in the designated visitor spaces located on Level P1. Please be sure to park in the visitor parking only to avoid receiving a parking citation.
    Directions to Lopata Hall from East End Garage. To reach the campus, take the elevator to Level 1 which is located in the corner by the North Entry/Exit (near Hoyt Drive). As you exit the elevator, proceed ahead and go left to continue on the sidewalk. The Scott Rudolph Hall will be the first building you will pass on your right. Continue until you reach the 2nd archway which is identified at the top of the archway as ‘The Sever Institute of Technology’. At the top of the stairs, enter Lopata Hall on your right. The elevator will be to your left. The Technology & Leadership Center is located on the 5th floor.
  2. Millbrook Parking Garage. Take Forest Park Parkway to Throop Dr. (Throop is one block east of Big Bend Blvd. and a couple of blocks west of Skinker Blvd.) Turn on to campus on Throop Dr. and the Millbrook Garage is immediately on your left. Parking is available in the Millbrook Garage, (from Forest Park Parkway turn onto Throop Drive). As you enter the garage, please park in the designated/marked visitor spaces located on Level 4. Please be sure to park in the visitor parking only to avoid receiving a parking ticket.
    Directions to Lopata Hall from Millbrook Garage. To reach Lopata Hall, exit the garage and go to your left. You will be heading back east towards St. Louis/Forest Park and walking along the service road that is parallel to Forest Park Parkway. The back entrance to our building is directly across from the Brick Smokestack. Once you get to the Smokestack, go directly across to the Lopata Dock and there will be a back door to the building with an elevator directly inside the door. Take the elevator up to the 5th floor, go left out of the elevator and you will be at the Technology & Leadership Center.

About the event

This is a follow-up to our popular event from May 2019: Agile in Systems Engineering.

If you are a professional in one of the technology fields that have been hit by the AGILE wave, and ever wondered how complex systems can be designed, synthesized, deployed, and maintained using AGILE methods, this is your opportunity to learn from experts. Join us at the Technology & Leadership Center at the McKelvey School of Engineering on the Washington University in St. Louis campus to hear from two of the finest AGILE practitioners, and consultants that St. Louis area has to offer.

Rob Simon and Matt Ingram have been consulted by several AGILE teams in different disciplines during various phases of product lifecycles to lead them in successful project execution. These are two individuals who can certainly say BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT! When it comes to complex systems design and development using AGILE methods.

Robert (Rob) Simons is a Systems Engineering ISR Technical Fellow at Boeing Defense Systems working with cross-functional multi-domain teams and environments. Rob is a US Army veteran, an International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP), a Certified Scrum Master, and former adjunct professor in the Systems Integration Master’s program at Washington University in St. Louis (WUSTL).

Matt Ingram is an Agile Certified Practitioner and a SAFe Agilist. He has coached teams in agile software development for companies in the defense industry, healthcare, and finance. Matt is an INCOSE Certified Systems Engineer an ASQ Certified Software Quality Engineer (ASQ CSQE) and CompTIA Security+ certified cyber security professional.
