Abstract
This talk will discuss the challenges and lessons learned that the development of the 5th edition of the handbook has entailed from 2019 until its publication in 2023 at the International Symposium. It will explain its structure, changes compared to the 4th edition, new content and how the transition to SEP certification will take place. It will also explain how the 5th edition wants to be the one that reaches the most academic programs in universities around the world through the INCOSE Academic Equivalency program, where the English language will no longer be a barrier for non-English-speaking universities.

Speaker:
Bernardo A. Delicado, PhD, ESEP has been working in the field of systems engineering for 31 years in the aerospace and defense sector in Europe. During his first eight years of career he worked for the Spanish government at INTA (Instituto Nacional Técnica Aeroespacial) on numerous European research projects. After that time, he spent twelve years with Airbus Defense and Space assuming many transnational technical responsibilities within the military aircraft programs (combat, unmanned and transport) developed between the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. In 2011, Bernardo joined MBDA Missile Systems (Airbus Group), assuming the position of Director of Engineering in Spain, carrying out a large part of his responsibilities integrated into multinational Systems Engineering teams in France and the United Kingdom. In March 2020, he joined Indra Sistemas as Director of Systems Engineering in the program called Future Combat Air System (FCAS), a trinational program between France, Germany and Spain. In 2023, he will have a corporate role as expert advisor in Systems Engineering for the transformation of the Operations Department of Indra Sistemas, as well as head of the School of Systems Engineering to train internally, at the Indra Engineering & Technology Campus, the current and future systems engineers of the company. Bernardo has a PhD in Interdisciplinary Engineering, as well as studies in Physical Sciences and Aerospace Engineering, and is an active member of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE). He was a founding member of AEIS (Spanish Chapter of INCOSE) in 2012, being its President from 2014 to 2015 (two years) and later its Technical Director. He is an expert in systems engineering (ESEP) by INCOSE. At INCOSE Headquarters in the US, he is editor of the 5th Edition of the INCOSE Systems Engineering Manual, editor of the SEBok (Systems Engineering Body of Knowledge), reviewer of the ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 standard, and member of the CAG (Certification Advisory Group ) responsible for the SEP certification of INCOSE, where he is coordinator of the Academic Equivalency for the whole world. Member of the Organizing Committee of the Complex Systems Design & Management (CSD&M) Conference in France.
