Chapter Meeting November 10

A Perspective on Understanding Requirements Development by Mr. Ricarte A. Bernal (Rick), Director Systems Engineering, ADD, Irving, TX

Location: Virtual (see chapter newsletter for connection information)

Abstract: “Systems engineering is an interdisciplinary approach and means to enable the realization of successful systems” as defined in the INCOSE Systems Engineering handbook. Specifically, requirements development is the fundamental activity in defining a successful system of interest. It is critical enterprise wide information that directly affect the cost, schedule, and quality of all products produced and delivered to customers. As critical as this function is, there are differences in practice from industry to industry. This presentation provides a perspective of the differences and challenges with requirements development faced by the Aerospace/Defense and In-Vitro Diagnostics Device industries.

Bio: Sr. Manager, Network & Tactical Systems, Boeing Defense, Space & Security; Sr. Systems Technical Lead Engineer, Phantom Works Resilient Technologies, Boeing Defense, Space & Security

Systems Engineering, Agile & SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) workshop

November 5

321 Gang is pleased to provide all INCOSE members a $200 discount to our November 5th Systems Engineering, Agile & SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) workshop. For only $295/person, participants will learn how to put into practice what was covered in the SAFe with MBSE for System Engineers webcast. In general, this workshop explores a practice that has proven successful in real world applications. Using a hands-on simulation throughout the course, Systems Engineers and Architects incrementally construct a system specification using MBSE techniques that define system context, behavioral response to stimulus, structural design and interfaces. This model, which will evolve on a synchronized (often 3-month) cadence, is used to:

Ensure architectural integrity and runway of the system

Identify and prepare for integrations to other systems

Elicit functionality to be decomposed and developed in an agile manner over the next increment
